The Moray Triangle

Nestled in the heart of Scotland, the Moray and Speyside regions offer a unique adventure for cycling enthusiasts: the Moray Speyside Gravel Triangle. This route is a haven for gravel bikers, providing a blend of challenging terrain, stunning landscapes, and a touch of Scottish heritage.

You will be accompanied by a qualified MTB guide throughout and a support vehicle will be available should it be required.

The Moray Speyside Gravel Triangle is an amalgamation of three popular cycling paths: The Speyside Way, the Moray Coastal Trail, and the Dava Way. These trails intersect to form a triangle, offering a comprehensive tour of the region’s diverse scenery. The journey begins on The Speyside Way, where cyclists can enjoy the historic railway line’s route towards the picturesque village of Craigellachie. Along the way, riders are treated to views of the River Spey and the opportunity to visit iconic whisky distilleries that dot the landscape.
The adventure continues along the Moray coastline towards Forres, where the beauty of the Scottish coast unfolds with each pedal. The route then heads back down the Dava Way, completing the triangle and bringing cyclists back to their starting point. This circuit can typically be completed in three to four days, but many choose to extend their trip to fully immerse themselves in the local culture and attractions.
The Moray Speyside Gravel Triangle is more than a cycling route; it’s a testament to the region’s commitment to outdoor adventures and its welcoming spirit to cyclists of all levels. Whether you’re a novice looking for a new challenge or an experienced rider seeking your next escapade, the Moray Speyside Gravel Triangle promises an experience that combines physical challenge with the tranquillity of Scotland’s natural beauty.

Day 1 – Speyside Way (Aviemore to Craigellachie)

Day 1 of this four-day itinerary kicks off in the charming town of Aviemore, setting out along the historic railway line that has been repurposed into a scenic route for adventurers. The path meanders through the lush Speyside region, dotted with renowned whisky distilleries like Tormore, Tamdhu, and Knockando. These distilleries are not just stops along the way; they are gateways to Scotland’s soul, offering a taste of the land’s spirit.
As cyclists venture further, the majestic Ballindalloch Estate emerges, offering panoramic views of the swift River Spey. Here, the grandeur of Ballindalloch Castle and Gardens awaits, inviting weary cyclists to rest and rejuvenate.

Fuelling the journey are the pit stops like the Grantown -On-Spey and the vibrant town of Aberlour, where local cafes and shops provide a warm welcome. And when the day’s ride comes to an end, Craigellachie’s bespoke accommodations offer a restful haven. Places like The Highlander Inn, with its cyclist-friendly amenities and locally-sourced cuisine, ensure that the experience is as delightful as the journey itself.


Day 2 – Speyside Way (Craigellachie to Cullen)

After a restful night in Craigellachie, you’ll be energized for the cycle to the charming town of Cullen. Form the outset we pass the breathtaking and engineering marvels of the past as the Telford Bridge emerges.
Further along, the Moray Coastal route intersects, leading you to the WDC Scottish Dolphin Centre at Spey Bay. Here, the thrill of spotting dolphins and local wildlife adds a touch of magic to your adventure.
When hunger beckons, Fochabers or Bijou the Sea, offering fine fuelling points for hungry cyclist.
As the day’s journey ends, Cullen welcomes weary cyclists with its coastal charm. Renowned for the savoury Cullen Skink soup, this town boasts a variety of accommodations and dining options to suit every taste.

Day 3 – Moray Coastal Trail (Cullen to Findhorn)

Travelling along the Moray Coastal Trail is an adventure that promises breathtaking views, charming coastal villages, and a touch of Scottish history. From the starting point in Cullen, we cycle past popular beaches such as Roseisle and Hopeman,
As you cycle along the trail, landmarks such as the Covesea Lighthouse stand as beacons of maritime history, while the hidden gems of Cove Bay and the caves and harbour at Hopeman add further interest.
Fuelling stops on the section of the route includes the coastal villages of Portknockie, Buckie, Lossiemouth, and Burghead.
The culmination of this day is at the village of Findhorn on the eastern shores of Findhorn Bay.

Day 4 – The Dava Way (Findhorn to Aviemore)

Heading back towards Aviemore, you will cycle along the Dava Way. Here, you will see sights such as Dallas Dhu Distillery, Blair’s Loch, and the Divie Viaduct which offer amazing, picturesque views and photo opportunities.
Towards the end of the Dava Way you will be able to stop off at Grantown on Spey where you can enjoy a variety of cafes, restaurants, takeaways for lunch, and unique shops on the high street.
Form Grantown it is a short cycle along the Speyside Way to journeys end at Aviemore.

Please note these expeditions are subject to minimum numbers. Prices do not include accommodation as it’s appreciated some may wish to wild camp and some may wish to use hotel or bnb accommodation we have a series of recommendations

Scotland has some of the best mountain biking available in the world, we can arrange everything from a day trip to the 7 Stanes mountain biking centres, to a coast to coast adventure. Get yourself involved in this fantastic  exciting sport.

Go Mountain Biking is the 5 level accreditation scheme for mountain biking. Nevis4 is proud to be an accredited centre. 

New to Mountain biking?

We can teach you the basic bike skills involved. Braking, gears, balance, drop offs and steeps. Get the basics right in order to let your bike skills grow, this saves frustration, fear and possible injury! 

Half day and full day courses run locally in the central belt, We use Mugdock Park, Strathclyde Park near Glasgow and the new Commonwealth games track at Cathkin. Let us introduce you to this fantastic sport  safely and at a very reasonable cost.

£35 for a half day £65 for a full day. Each session includes base skills  and a mountain bike ride. All run by Scottish Mountain Bike Leaders Association instructors.Ladies MTB
